Ingredients

1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 - egg whites

2 - eggs

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

.66 cup unsweetened applesauce

2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup walnuts

confectioners’ sugar

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 13" x 9" (32.5 x 23-cm) baking pan.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, with an electric mixer on low speed, beat the egg whites until foamy. Gently stir in the eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well-combined. Blend in the applesauce and vanilla extract. Stir in the flour mixture. Stir in the walnuts.

Spread into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Do not overbake. Cool in the pan on a rack. Dust the confectioners’ sugar over the brownies.
