Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 heaping cups flour
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
Preparation
Cream the butter and brown sugar together, then add the remaining ingredients, except for the walnuts. Mix well, adding more flour if needed. Batter should be quite sticky.
Add walnuts and mix in. Then place 1/3 of the dough on a sheet of plastic wrap. Form into a loaf, about 8" long, 3-44" wide and 1" thick. Wrap well in the plastic wrap and freeze.
When ready to cook, slice across the loaf to form thin slices, about 1/8" thick, while dough is still frozen. Place on a cookie sheet and immediately put into a 375 degree oven. Bake for 8 minutes.
