Ingredients

15 thick-skinned lemons

1 liter vodka, 100 proof

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 cups water

juice of 1 lemon

Preparation

Directions:

  1. Peel the lemons with a vegetable peeler and be sure to remove all white pith and discard pith.
  2. Place the lemon peels in a large jar with half of the vodka. Cover and place in a dark place for 1 week.
  3. After a week, bring the sugar and water to a boil. Simmer 5 minutes. Let cool completely. Add the sugar syrup, remaining vodka and lemon juice to the jar. Mix well, cover and place in a dark place for another 1 week.
  4. Strain and store in freezer until ready to use. Makes 1 ½ liters.
