Ingredients

1 c. shortening

4 oz. baking chocolate

2 eggs

1/2 c. granulated sugar

1 tsp. baking soda in 1 Tbs. hot water

1 c. dark molasses

2 tsp. vanilla

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. allspice

1/2 tsp. cloves

3/4 c. flour

Preparation

In a double boiler, melt together the chocolate and the shortening over low heat. Cool slightly. Then, add the eggs, sugar, baking soda, molasses, vanilla, and spices. Mix in the flour to make a very soft dough. Refrigerate at least 1 hour. Roll the dough out on a floured board and cut with a 2 inch round cutter. Bake 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees.
