Ingredients
1/2 pound stale rosemary country bread
1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
12 Crimini mushrooms, sliced and sautéed
2 large beefsteak tomatoes, sliced
6 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon powered mustard
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
freshly ground pepper
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°F. Oil a 12x10-inch baking dish. Tear bread into crouton-sized pieces and spread evenly in bottom of baking dish. Sprinkle half of the cheese over the bread. Layer on sliced tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and top with remaining cheese. Beat together the eggs, milk, mustard,salt and pepper. Pour over the layered strata. Bake 45 minutes, until the top is browned.
